Zombieland- Adventureland meets Shaun of the Dead

7 Oct

In full disclosure I haven’t seen Shaun of the Dead, despite it’s apparent awesomeness. But from what I understand it revived, if not started, the modern zombie comedy and Zombieland carries on that new tradition.

Zombieland, as the title may indicate, is an action-comedy set against a postapocalyptic zombie backdrop; with a little bit of romanticism in there as well. Columbus, Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland), is a shut in, nerd with some compulsion issues who somehow survives the zombie virus by following a series of simple rules. As demonstrated below:

Who meets Zombiekill of the week, aka Tallahassee played by Woody Harrelson (alot of stuff from the 90’s), and hitches a ride. Tallahasse is a good ol’ boy who enjoyed killing Zombie’s with flare, panache and guitars, among other things. All is going swimmingly until they meet Wichita (the cute Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), who con the two out of their truck, guns and dignity. When the tables are turned on Little Rock and Wichita the conflict turns to a good old family road trip through zombies, Bill Murray, zombies, love, and a healthy dose of Tarantino style bloodiness.

Eisenberg seems to have carved himself out a Michael Cera (Arrested Development) esque character type as the quirky, nerdy but lovable observer and Columbus continues that tradition. Eisenberg and Harrelson’s comedic chemistry carries the zombie backdrop through the cliche plot concept to make a very unique and engaging flick that will keep you laughing.

Starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and directed by Ruben Fleischer Runtime 80 mins
